Practically last chance to test their programs, strength, skating dresses and so on.
Pairs shown high levels of competition. The big surprise was the victory of Russia’s pair Yuko Kavagutu / Alexander Smirnov. But many people have noted a very low points evaluated for German’s pair Aliona Savchenko / Robin Szolkowy. This thing naturally affected the outcome results. Other Russian couple Maria Mukhortova / Maxim Trankov perfectly demonstrated how they make a progress. Beautiful Ukrainian couple Tatiana Volosozhar / Stanislav Morozov is the great decoration of any championship. Unfortunately not all turned out brilliant. But their level of skating and artistry merit of the highest ratings.
Men’s competitions waited all. We saw on the ice such a famous figure skaters as Evgeni Plushenko and Stephane Lambiel. Then Russian skater competed it was difficult to imagine that he had a big pause in his skating career. Also was magnificent the Swiss skater Stephane Lambiel. French Brian Joubert, who can skate at the same level as his competitors, unfortunately was not in his best condition. Will hope that he pick up his best for the Olympic start. Everyone wants to see his masterly skating.
In the ice dancing Italians Federica Faiella / Massimo Scali admired all with their performances. Their dances can be watched many times without stopping. But they could not beat their basic rivals the Russian dancers Oksana Domnina / Maxim Shabalin, who once again showed us their excellent technique. Their compatriots Yana Khokhlova / Sergei Novitski also made skating with maximum of efforts.
Ladies short program has demonstrated not bad fight. But unfortunately in the free skate, many of skaters were very nervous,so it affected the competition. We were very pleased to see Italian Carolina Kostner, skating stably and at a high level. Last year champion Finnish skater Laura Lepisto is not the first year is among the European leaders of figure skating. And of course, a pleasant surprise was the excellent performance of the Georgian skater Elene Gedevanishvili.
