World Figure Skating Championships 2010 – Overture

Well, we have just one week before the start of the World Figure Skating Championships in Torino, Italy.
I can’t believe – the Worlds are on the doorstep! Just a few weeks ago we watched the Olympics and now it’s the next and the last competition of this season. OK, let’s think what it will be.

LADIES. Yu-Na-Kim, who has been crowned in Vancouver is still the main contender for the World Champion’s title. Despite her long and hard season she’s in a strong conditions. The same words I can say about Mao Asada. Her great performances at the Olympics showed us that she will try her best for winning.

Also, it’s time to make new steps ahead for U.S. skaters Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu. They competed very well at the Olympics and I’m sure these two girls can do much more at the World Figure Skating Championships.

There will be the other great skater and a very strong competitor – Miki Ando. Her perfect performances can be a surprise anytime and anywhere.
And my special supporting words for Carolina Kostner. Carolina, my best wishes to your skating! All of us would like to watch your best performances, your perfect choreography and fantastic jumps. This World Championships is in your motherland. It won’t be the total psychological pressure to you like it was at the Torino Olympics. Just focus on your best skating!

PAIRS. In this skating discipline we will see a battle between Chinese pairs-Qing Pang/Jian Tong,Dan Zhang/Hao Zhang and the Germans Aliona Savchenko/Robin Szolkowy. Also I think Russians Yuko Kavaguti/Aleksander Smirnov are their strong competitors. By the way, the other Russians Maria Mukhortova/Maxim Trankov has a big potential and ambitions for medals. The same words to Canadians Jessica Dube/Bryce Davison.

MEN. The most debatable part of skating this year. Figure jumping or figure skating?:-) Will see…

Evgeni Plushenko is a favorite again. But I think he shouldn’t be relaxed because of Daisuke Takahashi. Takahashi has not only great technique preparation but his artistry is also in a very high level.

Brian Joubert has the real chance to say: ”I’m OK,it were just temporary difficulties in my skating. Now I’m ready to take the gold.” I hope this great skater will demonstrate us the real Brian Joubert.
Best of luck to Adam Rippon. He goes at this World Championships as an alternate but his performances time after time, step by step are better, better and better. Anyway, it will be a big experience for him.

ICE DANCE.Federica Faiella and Massimo Scali. Guys! It’s your Championships! Just skate from all your great soul, like you do it in every competition. They really deserve the medal. No matter which one because the main medal , of our hearts, they already have.

Meryl Davis and Charlie White. They did a great job this season. They did amazing performances in Vancouver. Now just need to repeat them. When they skate I haven’t any comments(just only enthusiastic)because it’s absolute figure skating. The same words I have to say for Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, just grandiose dances.

In addition I would like to wish all the best to every skater who will compete at the World Figure Skating Championships! Skate your best! Good luck!

I’d like to invite you to listen the great Italian song by Toto Cutugno “L’Italiano” as welcoming music!
