Colorado Springs – American Sporting Dream
The main training base for the Team USA of figure skating is Colorado Springs. The sports complexes of this city prepare the best athletes in many sports. Figure skating is one of the principal. Each year, the best American skaters come to Colorado Springs for a special training camp and from this city they are going to win medals for their country.
Founded in 1871, the resort city of Colorado Springs has received an international acclaim. It attracts tourists all year round with breathtaking scenery, a varied selection of restaurants and cuisine and also with their shopping centers. The mountains of Colorado Springs framed with coniferous forests and the air is crystal clear.
The city is the center of winter sports. Also, the U.S. National Olympic Committee is based there. Visitors of the city can enjoy skating, hiking, mountain riding, biking, rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, horseback riding, fishing, golfing, and many more.
The main advantage is considered a temperate climate, without sharp changes in weather. There is dry and sunny most of the year. Summer is warm, with low humidity and autumn is very beautiful. The mid-winter is typical by its mild and sunny weather, allowing residents to play golf, ride bikes and play tennis.
In the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs is located the U.S. Olympic Committee, as well as the headquarters of 24 different sports federations and other organizations. Simultaneously, the sports center can takes 557 coaches and athletes.
Earlier in the place of the Center, until July 1978, there was an air base of the U.S. Department of Defense. In October 1996, to other units of the Olympic Center was added the medical science center, which is one of the best in the world and in April 1997 – the Center of Sports Science.
It is curious that the first time the Olympic training centers appeared in the communist countries – the Soviet Union and East Germany. In the 50’s, 60’s, especially in the 70’s years they achieved great successes in sports, so the sporting officials from Western countries decided that need to do something.
They came to a conclusion about the need for greater centralization – especially in regard to the training of athletes. And then the U.S. Olympic Committee in conjunction with the U.S. Congress put forward the idea of creating such center in America and has developed its concept.
This Olympic Training Center is the flagship in the preparation of American athletes. Today, it is designed for 500 people; other centers are inferior to it in this regard. There are 27 sporting buildings in Colorado Springs.
It has the two Olympic stadiums – 5,000 square meters each. It hosts trainings for many Olympic and American sports. To Colorado Springs athletes come from all over the country.
While the U.S. Olympic Training Center, unlike most similar structures in other countries does not receive any financial support from the state, its effectiveness is not impaired: the best athletes adequately represent the United States at the Olympics and other international competitions.
