Kim Jong Il likes figure skating. Does Qaddafi like it too?
Russian figure skaters Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov performed in North Korea at the Festival of figure skating, dedicated to one of the major public holidays of this country – the birthday of the head of the republic Kim Jong Il.
February 16th the North Korean leader celebrated 69 years of age. In the country has been organized a large-scale celebration of this date, including the Festival of figure skating.
According to Russian media, Kavaguti and Smirnov went to Pyongyang by special invitation of the North Korean figure skating federation.
“We don’t have a way to contact them. Let’s talk when the guys come back. Incidentally, in Pyongyang also has been invited the European ice dance champions Natalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat.”, said Tamara Moskvina, the coach of the Russian team.
Moskvina said that Kavaguti/Smirnov will begin trainings for the world championships after their return from North Korea. She also said that after the European Championships in Bern, Kavaguti and Smirnov gradually reduced their sports routine, but now the European silver medalists will begin to train hard to come to the World Championships in Tokyo in optimum condition.
There is an interesting question. Will skaters (from any country) perform in shows if others such “leaders” also are interested in a figure skating?
