Miki Ando wins gold at Worlds

World Figure Skating Championships 2011

Miki Ando of Japan has won the gold at world championships in Moscow, her second world title. Olympic champion Yuna Kim had gone into Saturday’s free skate with a lead of less than half a point over Ando.

Both put on elegant free skates but neither was technically flawless. Ando stepped out of the first part of a planned double axel-triple toe combination. Kim singled both a double and a triple.

Carolina Kostner of Italy, who had started the day in sixth place, won the bronze.
