Cup of China – Preview
Grand Prix Serie continues this weekend with the Cup of China which will be held in Shanghai. The Grand Prix event is held in this city for the first time.
2011 World bronze medalist Artur Gachinski of Russia will face 2011 Four Continents silver medalist Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan and 2011 Four Continents bronze medalist Jeremy Abbott of the United States. Current Grand Prix Final silver medalist Nobunari Oda of Japan, Kevin Reynolds of Canada and Junior Grand Prix Final Champion Richard Dornbush of the U.S. are aiming at the podium there as well.
Competition should come from 2011 World Junior Champion Adelina Sotnikova of Russia. She can repeat the success of her countrywomen Elizaveta Tuktamisheva, who took the gold at the Skate Canada last week. Current World bronze medalist Carolina Kostner of Italy wants to secure her spot at the Grand Prix Final after finishing second at the Skate America last month. Other main contenders for the podium are the current Grand Prix Final bronze medalist Kanako Murakami of Japan and 2011 Four Continents bronze medalist Mirai Nagasu of the United States.
2011 European silver medalists Yuko Kavaguti / Alexander Smirnov of Russia will face two top rivals of China: repeated World medalists Dan Zhang / Hao Zhang and the current World Junior Champions Wenjing Sui / Cong Han both took the silver in their previous competition and are looking to secure their presence at the Grand Prix Final in Quebec. Other contenders include 2011 Skate America bronze medalists Kirsten Moore-Towers / Dylan Moscovitch of Canada and 2010 Cup of Russia bronze medalists Amanda Evora / Mark Ladwig of the USA.
2011 World bronze medalists Americans Maia Shibutani / Alex Shibutani will face with 2011 European silver medalists Ekaterina Bobrova / Dmitri Soloviev of Russia, which want to challenge the siblings. Other contenders include Pernelle Carron / Lloyd Jones of France, 2011 World Junior bronze medalists Charlotte Lichtman / Dean Copely of the U.S. and Xintong Huang / Xun Zheng of China.
