Konstantin Menshov will fight for the podium
This weekend in Sapporo, Japan will be hosted the next Grand Prix stage – NHK Trophy. Russia’s national team will be represented there by the reigning Russian national champion Konstantin Menshov (Men’s skating); 2009 World Junior Champion and 2010 & 2011 Russian national silver medalist Alena Leonova (Ladies’ skating); 2009 World Junior Champion and 2009 Russian bronze medalists Lubov Iliushechkina and Nodari Maisuradze; 2010 European champions, 2009 & 2010 World bronze medalists and 2008 – 2010 Russian national champions Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov (Pair skating); and by the 2010 World Junior Champion and 2011 Russian national bronze medalists Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov (Ice dance).
Konstantin Menshov shared with the Russian news agency “All Sports” his thoughts and expectations of his debut Grand Prix stage in the new season.
“I just depart today to Japan. I have a good mood as well as my sporting shape,” he said. “I was a little unwell after the Cup of Nice, had a slight poisoning, and last week did not work out in full force and effect. Nevertheless, hope I can show in Japan all that capable. The most important thing for me is to skate clean both programs.
Two days ago my quad jumps have stably turned out. This is important because in the short program I have a cascade of quadruple and triple toe loop, and in a free skate – a cascade of quadruple toe loop and double toe, and one more quadruple toe separately. At the moment I’m not trying to add any additional complex elements. The main thing is to skate well this set.” he added.
Many experts believe that the climb to the top you interfere with psychological problems.
Menshov: This is true. At the big competitions I often can’t cope with nerves and I make mistakes, which I don’t have in trainings. For the second year I have been working with a psychologist. I think the results of this work necessarily affect my performances. I think I am able to be selected for the Russian national team and compete at the European and World Championships. There I will fight for the podium. Last season, Artur Gachinski proved that nothing is impossible.
What about your new programs?
Menshov:I like very much both of my programs. I love images which I will embody on the ice. My short program music is based on the movie “Men in Black”. In my free skate program I express the image of a motorcycle racer, who escaped from the city routine and riding for his pleasure. Ilya Averbukh helped me in the process of creation of this program. Also, I would like to note the help of our former ice dancer Valentin Molotov. He did a lot working on my programs.
