Russia takes strong lead in pairs at the European Championships
Three Russian teams showed excellent results in the pairs’ short program at the European figure skating championships in Sheffield.
At the first place looks very confidently the team of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov with 72.80 points. Their short program was wonderful and very strong executed with just one visible mistake. Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov skated very confident their short program “Tosca” and earned 66.89 points. Third place is occupied by newcomers of the European Championships Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov. They finished with 58.66 points.
Recall that the three-time World Champions Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy withdrew from the championships on the eve of the short program due to parter’s injury.
“We are very sorry that Savchenko and Szolkowy withdrew from competitions,” said Trankov to the press. “It would be very good to compete with them at the European Championships. We lost a big motivation for these events.” he added.
“We are happy with our points for the short program. I was dissatisfied with my execution of some elements but overall I’m pleased with our today’s performance.” said Volosozhar.
