Kavaguti, Smirnov work as planned
Russian pair skater Alexander Smirnov, the partner of Yuko Kavaguti, fully recovered after the surgery. Now he is preparing, as planned, for the World Championships, said the coach of Russian duo Tamara Moskvina to RIA Novosti.
This season Kavaguti/Smirnov won two stages of the Grand Prix and took the bronze at the Grand Prix Final. They missed the Russian national championships, which took place in Saransk, due to partner’s knee injury. They were included to the national team without selection, but skaters couldn’t compete at the European Championships because Alexander Smirnov had a surgery for appendicitis in early January.
“Kavaguti and Smirnov have normal workouts on the ice and train in a full strength,” said Tamara Moskvina. “Today at the Saint Petersburg’s Academy of figure skating took place children’s competitions and organizers provided to Kavaguti/Smirnov an opportunity to take part in gala exhibition. They will skate the short program as they do it in competitions, so I think this fact shows that Alexander Smirnov is OK now.” she added.
