Alexei Mishin: “The ice is normal in Nice”

The Russian pair skaters could not make such absurd mistakes in the short program at the World Figure Skating Championships in Nice due to bad ice, thinks Alexei Mishin, the coach of Torino Olympic Champion and reigning European Champion Evgeni Plushenko, and last year’s world bronze medalist Artur Gachinski.

Three Russian duos made a fall in absurd situations in the yesterday’s short programs. Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov fell after the final pose of their program. Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov fell while performing the todes and Yuko Kavaguti and Alexander Smirnov made a mistake at the end of their lift. Smirnov and Trankov said that the ice at the Exhibition Center in Nice is not in good conditions.

“The ice is normal here,” said Alexei Mishin to R-Sport agency. “Artur (Gachinski) already tried it. I think that the reason for falls is in other thing – not enough competitive practices. Between the European Figure Skating Championships and Worlds there is a big distance. Some pairs went to the ice shows but it is not a valuable equivalent of competitions.” he added.
