Wenjing Sui, Cong Han lead in pairs at Junior Worlds

Chinese pair skaters Wenjing Sui and Cong Han took the lead in pair skating after the short program at the 2012 World Junior Figure Skating Championships. They followed by another pair of China Xiaoyu Yu and Yang Jin. Russians Ekaterina Petaikina and Maxim Kurdyukov are currently at third place.

Sui / Han performed a dynamic program on country style music, executing a high throw triple loop; required double Lutz and double twist. They also showed a high level lift, death spiral and spin. The reigning Four Continents Champions earned 59.29 points. “Today we felt really good. We did our best in the short program. It was a pleasant night,” Han said at a press conference. “This is our third year at Junior Worlds and each year all the teams are skating very well. Each time we learn and improve.” he added.

Yu / Jin’s program to “The Nutcracker” was highlighted by a difficult throw triple loop, high level double twist and a solid side by side double Lutz. This Chinese team also received the highest level for the lift, death spiral and a spin to post their new season’s best score with 54.72 points. “Today’s performance was really good. We did everything we can do and it was one of our best. Hopefully tomorrow we can skate even better in free skating.” said Jin.

Russia’s Petaikina / Kudryukov landed a solid throw triple loop, double twist in their short program to “Sarabande”. They also scored their new season’s best resul with 51.18 points. “It took us a long time to get to this point in international competition. Today was one of the best performances of the season. I hope that we skate as well tomorrow and place where we deserve to be.” Petaikina commented.
