Riazanova, Tkachenko will join Canton’s ice dance army
Russian ice dancers Ekaterina Riazanova and Ilia Tkachenko this week will move to the United States. Alexei Gorshkov’s duo decided to prepare for the next season in New York, Detroit and Miami.
Famous Canton’s coaches Marina Zueva and Igor Shpilband will become the advisers of this ice dance team and will take a big part in their preparation during the summer.
“This decision wasn’t spontaneous,” said Gorshkov to Moscow News. “We discussed this issue with Marina Zueva and Igor Shpilband during the season. Riazanova/Tkachenko need fresh ideas, changes in the training process and strong sparring partners if they want to go to the more high level of ice dancing.” he added.
Riazanova/Tkachenko will train at the same ice rink on which work Americans Meryl Davis/Charlie White and Canadians Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir.
“Soviet and Russian ice dance school has been and remains one of the best in the world, but to move forward we need cooperation, communication and exchange of experience among coaches.” Gorshkov noted.
