Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko signed an order about awarding a sports title “Master of Sports of the World Class” to a number of Russian national team athletes. Among received this prestigious title is a figure skater Polina Korobeynikova, who has pleasantly surprised many with her magnificent free skating performance at the 2012 Euros.
Korobeynikova made her debut in senior’s international events at the 2012 European Championships in Sheffield, England. She confidently qualified for the short program by taking the first place at the preliminary round with a free skating program, which contained seven triple jumps, including a triple flip – triple toe combination.
Polina placed 12th after the short program but finished 2nd in the free skate. She got the highest TES score in the ladies’ free skating (six points higher than the next best, gold medalist Carolina Kostner of Italy) after completing another program with seven triple jumps, including the triple flip – triple toe combination.
Korobeynikova was awarded a small silver medal for the free skating event. She finished in 4th place overall, off the podium by just 1.8 points. She placed the highest of the three Russia’s representatives at the event, finishing ahead of Ksenia Makarova and Alena Leonova.
