2012 World champion Carolina Kostner held a press conference in Bolzano yesterday. She talked about her plans for the new season, the prospects of her participation at Sochi Olympics and about the behavior of the press in relation to her boyfriend Alex Schwazer.

“I know it will be difficult to repeat my last year’s results, but I like what I do and there is no reason to stop, ” Kostner said Winter Sports News. “I decided to skip the Grand Prix Series this season because I want to concentrate on my preparation for the European Championships and Worlds calmly and stress free.” she continued.

The World champion has hinted that she is not sure of the participation at the Olympic Games in Sochi. “My happiness is not dependent on the medals. My intention is to be in Sochi in 2014, but within two years a lot can change. Meanwhile, I hope to avoid injuries and to secure adequate training,” Italian skater noted.

Kostner also commented on her attitude to the doping scandal linked to her boyfriend Alex Schwazer, the Beijing Olympic 50km walk champion.

“He made a big mistake. I saw him suffering for four years, especially in the last period before the Olympic Games in London, but I admire his courage to admit his mistakes and drama to the whole world. Alex paid and will pay. However, I would like that he once again found his own way and became so free, humble and quiet man as I knew him.” The World champion said.

Carolina concluded by saying that they were “very disappointed and saddened by the behavior of the press”.

“When Alex won the Olympic Games in Beijing, he was on the front pages of newspapers just one day. Now they write about him weekly.” Kostner added.
