The test performances of the Russian skaters took place yesterday at the sports palace “Mechta” in Moscow. The members of the national team presented their programs for the new season.

Among those present at the event were the President of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia Alexander Gorshkov, the General Director Valentin Piseev and the head coach of Team Russia Tatiana Tarasova.

2012 World silver medalist Alena Leonova believes her new programs have become more intense.

“Both programs have become richer in terms of choreography, steps and so on, so they are much more difficult to skate. But this is a plus in the terms of points because I would like to improve my records in the upcoming season,” Leonova told Team Russia-2014.

“Last year I climbed high taking the second place at Worlds but it will be not easy to hold this position. I can’t say that I feel more pressure but I’ve got more responsibility. You should confirm your status and I will try to do it, literally from the first start.” she added.

She also commented on the technical side of her skating in the coming season.

“I will execute my triple toe-triple toe but at the same time I will work on improving my elements.” Leonova noted.

Free skating program of Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov, “ The February”, is based on the work of Russian modern composer Leonid Levashkevich and it was advised to use by the General Consul of Ukraine in Saint-Petersburg Natalia Prokopovich, told skaters’ coach Tamara Moskvina.

“Their short program is Waltz by Strauss and a finding the idea for the free skate is a special story,” said Moskvina R-Sport. “I was invited to the Consulate of Ukraine in St. Petersburg to present gifts. The General Consul asked me: “How can we be useful to you?” I looked around the room, saw lying on the shelf CD’s and said: “Can you give me these discs for listening?”. After a few days the idea of free skating program was ready.” said Moskvina.

Moskvina also said that her other pair skating team of Katarina Gerboldt and Alexander Enbert will not participate in any event of the first half of the season, including the Russian national championships, due to partner’s injury.

The ice dancing team of Ekaterina Riazanova and Ilia Tkachenko, which had series of trainings in the United States with Igor Shpilband, said that their couple sets the maximal goals for the new season.

“In the U.S. the training schedule was quite different. It wasn’t like before – morning and evening workouts, which occupied the whole day and at the night we were very tired and wanted nothing but sleep only. Now we work in the first half of the day and without monotonous workouts. Every hour we do something new.” Riazanova said.

Reigning European champion Evgeni Plushenko will take part in the test skating performances which will be held on September, 15 and 16 at the ice palace in Odintsovo and “Moskvich”.

Also at this weekend’s performances will participate 2012 European silver medalist Artur Gachinski, two-time World silver medalists Tatiana Volosozhar/Maxim Trankov and the reigning Russian pair skating champions Vera Bazarova/Yuri Larionov.
