Kaetlyn Osmond at Skate Canada 2012

Yesterday in Windsor, Ontario the 2012 Skate Canada competitions were opened by ladies performances. Elene Gedevanishvili of Georgia finished first, Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond was second and Ksenia Makarova of Russia came third.

Performing to “Schindler’s List”, Elene Gedevanishvili executed a triple Salchow, double Axel, but her triple Lutz – triple toe combination was underrotated. She got 60.80 points for the short program.

“I am a little shocked,” Gedevanishvili told the press. “My practices have been going well and I trained a lot. This music and this program is very special to me.” the leader added.

Canadian Kaetlyn Osmond amazes me with each of her appearances on the ice. Frankly, before this season I was not able to watch her performances often. Now I can tell that Canada again has a figure skater of the highest level. I would say more, one day she will stand at the podium of the most prestigious competitions.

This skater has a simply amazing harmony of beautifully executed components and a very high technique. Yesterday, she performed the very first, but it is not embarrassed her at all. Yesterday on the ice were famous rivals – it didn’t confused her too. Finally, it was her debut at the Grand Prix and this fact also didn’t influenced the excellent quality of Kaetlyn’s performance.

Her Latin program to “Mambo No. 8” and “Gwendoline” was featured by triple toe – triple toe combo, a triple flip, double Axel and two highest level spins. Kaetlyn Osmond scored a new personal best of 60.56 points.

“With how I skated with my personal best, to sit there and watch the others skaters I learned a lot and it was just kind of fun to wait and see their scores.” she commented.

Russia’s Ksenia Makarova landed a triple toe – triple toe, a triple loop and got a level four for two spins and step sequences, but she popped her Axel in her performance to “Maria and the Violin’s String”. Makarova earned 58.56 points.

“My last season wasn’t good at all, but today I really had fun. I enjoyed it so much, I got disoriented in half my program, because I was so into the emotion. Today was probably the best feeling I had in a long time.” Makarova said.
