Takahashi, Wagner take first places at Japan Open

Daisuke Takahashi of Japan won the men’s event at the Japan Open 2012, which was held today in Saitama, suburb of Tokyo. 2010 World champion scored 172.06 points.

Another member of team Japan, Takahiko Kozuka, finished second with 165.08 points. 2006 Olympic bronze medalist and 2008 World Champion Jeffrey Buttle of Canada took the third place with 160.08 points.

At the ladies event, U.S. national champion Ashley Wagner took the first place (123.57) performing very well her first international competition of the new season. Japanese Mao Asada (122.04) and Akiko Suzuki (110.07) finished second and third respectively.

The big surprise was unsuccessful performance of 2006 Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, who made several mistakes including a fall on the Axel jump. His main rival Patrick Chan of Canada, also surprisingly, finished at the last place.

Recall that at the Japan Open skaters performed only their free programs.
