Junior champ Lipnitskaia leads Asada at the Cup of China

Julia Lipnitskaia at the Cup of China 2012

Mao Asada of Japan, a two-time World champion, trails World junior champion Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia at the ISU Grand Prix Cup of China in Shanghai.

Lipnitskaia performed very well and clean her strong short program, which was highlighted by a complex cascade of triple Lutz – triple toe, perfect other jumping elements  and high level spins.

World junior champion is happy with her today’s performance but not very happy with the score.

“It seemed to me that the points for the clean skating could be higher. When I performed in early October at the Finlandia Trophy, I got “-2” for my cascade. But the overall score was 64.05. Now it’s 63.06.” Lipnitskaia said Sport Express.

“As for the execution of elements, everything turned out exactly as I wanted.” she added.

She posted a score of 63.06 points in the short program to lead the Japanese skater by just 0.17 points going into yesterday’s free skating.

Former U.S. champion Mirai Nagasu holds the third place with 59.76 points.
