Elizaveta Tuktamysheva takes first national title

Elizaveta Tuktamisheva

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva for the first time in her career won the national title at the Russian skating championships, beating the winner of the Junior Grand Prix Final Elena Radionova and three-time Russia’s champion Adelina Sotnikova.

This morning there were doubts that Elizaveta can take part in free skating. The fact is that the athlete caught a cold and had to perform tonight showing a strong character and fighting until the very end.

Tuktamysheva skated her program with minimal errors and received a total of 196.57 points. Elena Radionova showed a very good and technically strong performance. She finished second with 191.26 points. Adelina Sotnikova fell during the performance of a cascade of two triple jumps, but the rest of the program she skated at a high level. Her score is 190.75.

“Today I decided to participate and to fight until the end,” Elizaveta said after the event. “Frankly, now I feel bad (because of flu). A decision about participation I have taken together with my coaches. We decide everything together because we are the team. Also, my character played its role in my victory, of course.” Liza noted.

Tuktamysheva and Sotnikova automatically received spots for competing at the 2013 European Championships in Zagreb. Radionova can’t perform there because of age limits. Nikol Gosviani was the best of other participants who can (age eligible) perform at the European Championships. She finished sixth (170.67). 2012 World silver medalist Alena Leonova with unsuccessful performance in free skating ended up in seventh place (169.64).
