Takahashi, Tran part ways
2012 World bronze medalists Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran, who competed for Japan in pair skating, decided to finish their collaboration as a team, reports NikkanSports with a reference to the Japan Skating Federation.
Takahashi and Tran were the only Japan’s competitive pair skaters of world level. Last season, the two-time World junior champions won the bronze medals in Nice and became the first pair to medal for Japan at a senior World Championships.
However, the pair practically didn’t have Olympic prospects due to the fact that Mervin Tran is a Canadian citizen and he couldn’t obtain the Japanese passport: the athlete did not live in Japan.
