The president of the Figure Skating Federation of Russia Alexander Gorshkov announced the Russian team for the World Championships, which will be held from March 10–17 in London, Canada.
Konstantin Menshov, who took the bronze medal at the 2013 national championships and won the Russian Cup Final last week, is not presented among national team members as well as the silver medalist of Russian nationals Sergei Voronov.
“Yesterday was held a meeting of the executive committee of the Federation. Unfortunately, I did not attend it because of illness but I know the results of it.” said Alexander Gorshkov FCP-Press. “We didn’t change athletes in ice dancing. In pair skating, the third couple for London is Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov, who recovered from an injury and showed a good skating in test performances.” Gorshkov continued.
“In ladies single skating Alena Leonova performed very well in Tver at the Russian Cup Final and was included to the national team. The only place in men’s skating we gave to Maxim Kovtun. Expert panel reviewed the skaters and decided that Kovtun should go to Worlds. I believe that he is able to take place in the top ten and earn two spots for Russia for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.” Gorshkov noted.
