Stepanova, Bukin lead dance at junior Worlds

Alexandra Stepanova and Andrei Bukin

Russian ice dance team of Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin  danced to the lead (64.65 points) at the 2013 World junior championships in Milan, Italy.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guilleaume Cizeron (61.58) of France and American’s Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton (56.89) are second and third after the short dance.

Stepanova/Bukin’s dance to Blues and Swing featured fast twizzles, a confident Blues pattern dance and a straight line lift. The lift, twizzles and one Blues sequence merited a level four. The reigning ISU Junior Grand Prix Final Champions earned 64.65 points, surpassing their previous seasons best by 3.47 points.

“Last year’s competition was easier to us,” Bukin said Russian media. “In the last season there was a couple that wins and we tried to beat it. There wasn’t a feel of high responsibility. But now we are leaders and we need to win.” Bukin added.

“But I would not say that the difference is big (between last two seasons). We still are nervous before every start. ” Stepanova added.
