Volosozhar/Trankov: “We were well prepared for Worlds”

Pairs podium at 2013 World championships

Yesterday, at the 2013 World figure skating championships Russia’s pair of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov won their first world champions title. Skaters shared their thoughts on the victory with national media.

Volosozhar: “When we finished our program I told Maxim that maybe we are world champions! These were my first words. We did all the elements and this was the result of our hard work. Now I’m more happy about our good performance than about the title.”

“Of course, we are very excited because we have become World vice-champions twice and here we wanted to move forward!”

“Usually we always train in Moscow before all competitions. And this time we had to fly to another continent. We decided to make our preparation there in order to acclimatize and to adapt to the size of the rink. We practiced alone on the ice and were very focused on each workout. And I think that it played a role.”

Trankov: “I can’t believe we won. This victory means that we can fight for the gold in Sochi and return our country the Olympic gold! I already won the World Junior Championships here in Canada with my former partner. Canada is my country!”

“We skated very well in trainings and were well prepared for this World Championships.”
