Ilia Averbukh: “Plushenko is able to win Sochi Olympics”
2006 Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko is able to show any result in Sochi, including a victory, thinks a well-known Russian coach, choreographer and producer Ilia Averbukh.
At the 2012/2013 season Plushenko took his tenth national title. In January he had to withdraw from the 2013 European Championships in Zagreb, Croatia due to health problems. Later same month, the athlete underwent a surgery on his spine. According to Plushenko’s coach Alexei Mishin, his student will begin workouts and preparation for the new season in June.
“I am not a doctor and do not have the diagnosis of Evgeni, but I think that he will do everything to recover and perform in Sochi,” Averbukh said R-Sport. “Evgeni will not back down.” he continued.
According to Averbukh, the last World Championships showed that in men’s figure skating can happen anything. “Denis Ten in the long program was the first by showing the not beyond the complexity program. Basically, the set of elements, with which Evgeni can cope, and his charisma give him a chance to any result.” Russian coach noted.
According to Averbukh, Russia should pin Olympic hopes in men’s skating on Evgeni Plushenko only.
