Rostelecom Cup to be held in Luzhniki arena

Russian event of the 2013 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating will be moved from the Sports Palace “Megasport” to the Small Sports Arena of Luzhniki, said R-Sport the general director of sports and entertainment events of Moscow Alexander Polinsky.

On Wednesday it was reported that there is a threat to cancel all the sporting competitions planned at “Megasport” arena because of serious defects of building.

“As you know, the “Megasport” arena is closed now. The Grand Prix of Figure Skating (Rostelecom Cup) will be held at the Small Sports Arena of Luzhniki.” said Polinsky.

The Small Sports Arena of Luzhniki is located in Khamovniki District of the Central Administrative Okrug of Moscow city. It is a part of the Grand Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex in Moscow, which is the biggest sports stadium in Russia.

The name Luzhniki derives from the flood meadows in the bend of Moskva River where the stadium was built, translating roughly as “The Meadows”.

The 2013 Rostelecom Cup will be held in Moscow, Russia from November 22–24, 2013.
