U.S. Figure Skating announced yesterday the selection of Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. (suburban Chicago), as the host venue for 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America.

Hilton HHonors, the guest loyalty program of Hilton Worldwide’s 10 distinct hotel brands, celebrates its fourth year as the title sponsor of Skate America, the first of six stops on the International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Competition featuring 56 world-class skaters from around the world will take place Oct. 24-26.

“The Greater Chicago area is home to many of our clubs and has an extensive skating fan base,” U.S. Figure Skating Executive Director David Raith said. “U.S. Figure Skating is excited to bring our principal international event to this skating-rich area.”

Skate America, the premier annual international figure skating competition held in the United States since 1979, will be held in the Chicago area for the first time. The event will be the first major U.S. Figure Skating event, domestic or international, held in Greater Chicago since the 1946 U.S. Championships. Sears Centre recently hosted the 2014 Midwestern & Pacific Coast Synchronized Sectional Championships in January. The Hilton Rosemont/Chicago O’Hare will be the official host hotel for the event.

“The Village of Hoffman Estates is thrilled to host another world class event and is delighted to welcome 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America to the Sears Centre Arena in October of 2014,” said Hoffman Estates Mayor William D. McLeod. “Skate America features some of the most talented athletes in the world and it is a tremendous honor to have them competing in our Village.”

Skate America will feature three days of competition in ladies, men’s, pairs and ice dance. The field of competitors is expected to include several athletes who competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Past Skate America titlists include five-time World champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek and Meryl Davis and Charlie White.

The complete list of athletes selected to compete at the 2014 Hilton HHonors Skate America and the rest of the 2014 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events will be announced June 27.

Skate America will be the first of six events that make up the 2014 Grand Prix Series. Other stops include Skate Canada, Cup of China, Trophee Eric Bompard, Rostelecom Cup and NHK Trophy. Skaters earn points throughout the Grand Prix Series to qualify for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final each December. The 2014 Grand Prix Final will be held Dec. 11-14, in Barcelona, Spain.

NBC will kick off its season-long coverage of the ISU Grand Prix Series with two hours live at Skate America from 4-6 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Oct. 26. Icenetwork will stream live coverage of the entire Grand Prix Series on a subscription basis. NBC will carry same-weekend coverage of the remaining Grand Prix events, while Universal Sports will broadcast live and delayed coverage throughout the Grand Prix season. Broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
