Ekaterina Riazanova to compete for Italy
Russian ice dancer Ekaterina Riazanova, who previously competed with Ilia Tkachenko, most likely will continue her career for Italy with a new partner Simone Vaturi.
According to Neveitalia, skaters conducted trial joint trainings and unless something unforeseen happens, they will be performing as a new ice dance team for Italy.
It is also reported that the Russian figure skating federation will not hinder the change of Riazanova’s sports citizenship. The new ice dance duo will be coached by Paola Mezzadri and Roberto Pelizzola.
Recall that on 24 April 2014, Riazanova announced that she had parted ways with Tkachenko and that she was seeking a new partner to continue her career.
A former team of Riazanova/Tkachenko many times took podium at the Russian national championships but last season this ice dance couple remained outside the top three and was not included to the national team for the Olympic Games in Sochi and World Championships in Japan.
Italy’s Simone Vaturi with his former partner Lorenza Alessandrini is the 2010 and 2013 Coupe de Nice silver medalist, 2011 and 2012 Ondrej Nepela Memorial silver medalist, and a two-time Italian national bronze medalist.
